What is a Refillery?

At Starlight, we apparently love challenging words. We're home to a solarium, columbarium, and refillery. For today's post, I'd like to focus on that last one. So, what is a refillery?

It's actually quite simple. A refillery is a place where folks can refill reusable containers with products instead of buying new packaged items each time.

Consider for a moment that the average American generates almost 300 pounds of plastic waste every year, according to a study from Yale [source]. A refillery can offset some of that waste while also shifting spending from large corporations that create even more waste to independent suppliers and non-toxic products.

The Starlight Refillery is centered on these principles: reducing consumer waste and environmental impact, increasing accessibility to affordable non-toxic products, shifting spending from evil corporate overlords toward local economies and ethical companies.

We offer household cleansers, personal cleansers, and the fanciest of cooking oils. Seriously. Bottles and jars are available for purchase in the Starlight Shop & Refillery, but folks are welcome to bring their own containers.
